Mythology So, you want to know a little bit about Serenity's mythology? Well, here you go, all you need to know about Selene, the goddess from which her name originates. Selene is the goddess of the moon in Greek Mythology, and sometimes referred to as the moon itself. Her Roman name is Luna. She is the daughter of Hyperion and Thea (Also called Theia). Selene also had a brother and a sister. Her brother was Helios, the sun god, and her sister was Eos, goddess of the dawn. In later mythology, Selene was replaced as goddess of the moon by Artemis. Selene is most famous in mythology for her love and affair with the earth man, Endymion. While he is said to be a shepard, some say he is actually king. Selene seduced Endymion one night while he slept and the two fell in love. They had fifty daughters together. As the tale goes, Selene asked Zeus to let Endymion choose his fate, so he complied. Endymion chose to sleep forever. It is said that Selene would come and kiss him each night. Selene is also said to have had love affairs with Zeus and Pan. Also, according to some sources, Selene is the daughter of Pallas, and in others the daughter of Zeus.
